Dr. Cyrus Mills is a very different person.  He's not used to working with people and pets.  His past occupation was in the lab figuring out the problems with the data given to him. Once he takes over his Dad's veterinary practice he finds that dealing with data is much different than dealing with people.  He has to learn how to speak in layman's terms and to relate to the person.  His biggest hurdle is his love life, or rather the lack there of.
